KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- When Bryce Pereyo turned 5 this month, he and his mother Lisa visited the Young Williams Animal Center and decided to feed the animals instead of receiving gifts at his party.

His mom, Lisa Pereyo tells us he did still got gifts, but also collected about 200 pounds of food and lots of stuffed animals for the animals.

She said she is proud of him.

Lisa says he wanted guinea pig food especially when he saw an empty bowl in one of their cages.

Bryce says "It's our responsibility to feed the animals."

The food collected will actually help the pet shelter's food pantry for the public.

They hand out food to families in need who have pets.

Bryce says he wants to do the collection again on his 6th Birthday.
