KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- "We're a match made in heaven," says Beano Wallace about he and fiance' Meredith Charles' relationship.
They've both competed in body building, enjoy mentoring people about healthy lifestyles, and they practice what they preach.
They are health and fitness nuts themselves.
We caught up with them at Eddie's Health Shop in West Knoxville.
Meredith works there, and Beano will use one of the machines following his dialysis three times a week for kidney disease.
A trip to the family doctor followed by tests, determined Beano needed a kidney transplant.
Meredith decided to get tested, thinking she was a different blood type, and get placed on the list as a donor.
This would move Beano up the list for recipients.
However, Meredith was a perfect match for Beano.
The couple plans to wed in the fall.
But, the big day is May 31st. That's the day of the transplant.
He says, "I am lucky to have her in my life."
Both Beano and Meredith stress the importance of becoming an organ donor and they plan to continue to educate people about the importance of a healthy lifestyle, even when you're diagnosed with such a serious disease.
There is a kidney walk on Sunday at 2:00 pm at the UT Botanical Gardens.
