KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- Twice a year in the spring and the fall, about 5 dogs from Young Williams Animal Shelter help in the program HALT.
Humans and Animals Learning Together takes at-risk youth and allows them to train the dogs simple commands.
The program teaches the teens self confidence and builds self esteem.
About 30 or so volunteers are needed for the four week program.
In the end, the dogs are placed for adoption.
You can see this session's pups tomorrow at PETSMART on Morrell Road from 1-4.
Next Saturday at Union Ave Books on from 1-4.
The dogs are available for adoption now for $150.
Prospective families can go through the application process while classes are going on.
The dogs do have to complete the program with the kids and can go to their new homes on May 11th.
If you're not able to make it Saturday, you can contact Catatoga Kennel if a time during the week might be better, 693-5540.
They're celebrating 25 years.
During that time approximately 1300 kids have been through the program and 300 dogs have been rescued and adopted through HALT.
The program can always use more volunteers.
