KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) -- Dolly Parton's Imagination Library has been such a success.
The program just marked a milestone - by giving away it's one millionth book.
One of the people responsible for books reaching more children is Bonny Naugher.
Bonny loves to read, but her passion for periodicals doesn't end there.
She's been a volunteer with the Knox County Public Libraries for about 25 years, wearing many hats.
Mary Pom Claiborne with the KCPL says, "Bonny is awesome! She puts as much work in the library as her job, and she doesn't get paid for it at all. She is amazing. We could not function without her."
Right now Bonny is in the children's section of sorts. She is the president of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library for Knox County.
The program delivers an age specific book to young kids in Tennessee, rich or poor and it's free.
Bonny says, "The program is to get kids reading, read to from birth to age five. "I have been known to accost parents in the stores saying, is your child signed up for Imagination Library?"
Her mission is to get every eligible child on the list.
"It's been five full years of data (from the program) and it shows it makes a difference in kids who have the Imagination Library are far better prepared for kindergarten than those who don't have the books."
Bonny Naugher, we congratulate you for your Volunteer Spirit!
She also has to raise money for the books.
The Governor's office matches funds, but they have to raise half.
One way is through the "Great Cake Bake."
