NEWPORT, Tn.(WVLT)--"Cheeseburger, yea, cheeseburger, cheeseburger here and cheeseburger, need two bacon."
If you didn't know better you'd think this is right out of a Saturday Night Live skit.
This is East Tennessee's version and very busy. It's simply called Grill 73 located in Cocke County and not your typical restaurant in these parts.
It was all started by Valentina and Alex Ryzhkov.
This Russian couple took their professional trapeze act to another high wire performance in a sense, the restaurant business.
Valentina says, "When we decide to build restaurant, we tried to make different, like more homey, a family, very family restaurant."
Oh you'll get your cheeseburger alright but much more like cabbage rolls, Russian salads and stuffed peppers.
Valentina and Alex grew up in the Soviet Union, married in '87 and have been pleasing crowds ever since.
Now it's the kitchen that''s their stage. Just stay out of their way, you might get hurt.
Alex took an old gas station and turned it into this special place in Cocke County, hand building a fireplace, honing the wood for the walls and doors.
But it's the food made from scratch that brings them back.
Val says,"Food is gonna be not like you just made it no, you have to feel it.
The best compliment..., thank you everybody for coming and be like our family."
If you would like to sample their food, you can find them on http://www.grill73.com/
