LIMESTONE, Tenn.(WVLT) -- Fess Parker played Davy Crockett on TV and the movies but you can visit the real home place of Davy, even camp there.
It's called the Davy Crockett Birthplace and Campground located in Limestone, Tennessee in Greene County.
"We are about 104 acres, we have about 3 and a half miles of trails", said Park Manager Bill Knapp.
Davy Crockett was born in 1786 and the real attraction is the cabin.
Knapp says, "This is the best estimate of where the cabin was, we know from Crockett's own writing. He was born on the confluence of the Nolichucky River and the Limestone Creek".
Archaeological digs found post holes so engineers built the replica cabin on the same site in 1986.
And to get a better understanding of Crockett you can also visit the free museum just a few hundred yards from the cabin.
"What we tried to do was to take different times during Davy Crockett's life and tell a little bit about it so, so a lot of people know David as the
pioneer......we have David the congressman....we tried to bring out his persona", said Knapp.
"When folks come here, it is a pretty area, a beautiful area, but this is the birthplace of a legend. this man
David Crockett, this is where the legend began", said Knapp.
It's also part of our heritage.
