PIGEON FORGE, Tenn.(WVLT) -- Oakhaven Resort and Spa is a true getaway not in terms of miles traveled if you live in East Tennessee but in terms of piece, quiet and beauty.
It's located on the highest point between Pigeon Forge and I-40 in Sevierville.
Oakhaven is a community of cabins all started by a well known East Tennessee family that goes back generations.
"My grandfather was a baptist preacher by vocation through the depression and my mother was raised just over the hill about three miles as the crow flies, one
thing we were taught, we can't be all things to all people, so we are family.", said Chuck McCarter owner of the resort.
The family started with 3 cabins in 1996 now there are over 100 sitting on 100 acres. Many are privately owned and rented out and all equipped to the max.
McCarter said, "We want them all to be unique to show that particular owner's personality very consistent with the quality and the amenities and the features".
They vary from one bedroom to a five thousand square foot seven bedroom unit with the latest features from kitchen appliances to all king beds.
There's also a community pool and playground for the kids.
The McCarter family values have given many a good reason to come back like Pastor Brent Freeman. he moved his family to East Tennessee from Florida.
"So it's a completely different landscape, so that's why we love to come here we have alot of family from Florida", said Freeman.
While the guys were being interviewed by Alan, mom Giovanna and daughter Miranda took some down time in the spa for a full pedicure manicure and a chocolate sundae.
Whether you're from out of state or just right down the road. It's a getaway that will take you away from all the stresses of life and it's just down the road.
