Dollywood named a top music destination

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- A new poll lists Dollywood as one of the top 10 music destinations in the world.

The USA Today readers poll listed five locations in Tennessee among the top 10. Dollywood ranked number six on the list.

"We've been voted for the past 6 years to have the best shows of any theme park in the world. So it's only fit for us to be in the running for best musical attractions," said Wes Ramey, Dollywood Publicist. "When Dolly Parton has anything to do with it you've got a good shot at being in the top 10. We had a feeling that we would do well."

The state tourism commissioner says this is good news and comes just in time with the state launching a new branding campaign called "The Soundtrack of America: Made in Tennessee."

"That's remarkable, when you look at 50 states and one state has the potential of having five of the top 10, and they're from all over and they're from middle Tennessee and west Tennessee and that's indicative of what we're saying we have here," said Commissioner Kevin Triplett. "The goal was a brand broad enough across the state to fit everything in. Because each area of the state is so diverse."

The poll voted Graceland and Sun Studio in Memphis as the top one and two destinations.
