LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Federal mediator Herb Fetty says he wants a meeting Monday with representatives of more than 600 striking nurses and the administrators of Appalachian Regional Healthcare.
When their contract expired at 12:01 a.m. Monday, some 630 registered nurses at seven Kentucky and two West Virginia ARH hospitals walked off the job.
Negotiator Pat Tanner of the nurses association says Fetty initiated talks between the two sides yesterday.
ARH officials have cautioned that the discussions were simply talks, not necessarily a resumption of negotiations.
