Morristown Man Accused of Causing Infant to Go Blind

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. (AP) -- A Morristown father was charged with aggravated child abuse after authorities said he caused his infant girl to become permanently blind.

Hamblen County authorities charged Lucas Lee Barton after an investigation into a shaken baby incident in July.

The Tennessee Department of Children's Services has placed Jocelyn Michelle Barton, who is 5-months-old now, and an older brother and a half brother in foster care.

A family member said the girl also suffered brain damage and other injuries and can only see out of a small part of one eye.

An investigator with the District Attorney General's office wouldn't discuss details, but said the state has a good case against the father.

The public defender's office has been appointed to represent Barton, but the case has not yet been assigned to a specific lawyer.

He is being held on a 100,000 dollar bond.
