Group Trying To Draft Al Gore

WASHINGTON (AP) -- A group calling itself Draftgore.com bought a full-page open letter published in today's New York Times.

The group says it's a group of grassroots Democrats and the ad calls on Gore to enter the presidential campaign, saying 136,000 people have signed its online petition.

The ad was placed two days before the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced. Gore has been nominated because of his campaign to highlight global warming.

The letter reads, in part, "America and the Earth need a hero right now."

Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider says the former vice president and former Tennessee senator appreciates the "heartfelt sentiment behind this ad," but has no intention of running for president.
