Middle Tennessee Dogfighting Ring

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Police are looking for a Nashville man who faces charges of animal fighting and cruelty after authorities found an apparent dogfighting ring.

Carlton Dewayne Nelson is wanted in connection with a dogfighting pit and nine pit bull terriers found just outside Nashville on Sunday. Police went to his workplace Friday to serve the warrant for his arrest, but he was not there.

Police found the wounded and scarred dogs chained up, as well as a dead pit bull inside a dog house, in a wooded area.

Detectives believe food and water had been withheld from the one dog found dead.
