Knoxville Man Facing New Charges After Escape Attempt

Knoxville (WVLT) - A Knoxville man facing charges including carjacking, kidnapping and burglary is now facing even more charges after trying to escape from the courtroom.

Workers at the City-County building say 30-year-old Billy Spurgeon, Junior, tried to make a run for it during a hearing in Knox County felony court Monday.

Court employees say several court officers took him back into custody in the hallway that leads from the City-County building to Main street.

Spurgeon was in court for a preliminary hearing.
