MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- The Memphis City Council has reversed itself and voted to increase Mayor Willie Herenton's pay by nearly $12,000.
The increase in January will be the first raise in the office's salary in more than four years and bring Herenton's pay to $171,500.
A similar pay hike effort failed last month in the council, but members reversed themselves yesterday, voting 8-5 for the raise.
