MORRISTOWN, Tenn (WVLT) -- A Morristown man has been charged in connection with a robbery and hammer attack.
Jerry Dale Gilbert, 27, of 3135 Norman Drive, Morristown, is charged with especially aggravated robbery.
He's in the Hamblen County Jail with no bond.
Morristown Chief Roger Overholt says officer noticed Huberto Jiminez walking down Highway 66 yesterday.
Overholt said Jiminez had facial injuries and was carrying a hammer.
Overholt said Jiminez told police he had saved a large sum of money and was planning to go to Mexico when men came to his apartment, forced him into a mini van, and then took him to a wooded area.
Jiminez says the men beat him with their fists and a hammer and robbed him.
Jiminez was treated at a local hospital and released.
Gilbert was arrested by police last night and is set to be arraigned this morning.
Overholt says further arrests are anticipated in the case.
Overholt says this crime is a good reminder to you to be safe, especially during the holidays.
“We ask that you never give anyone any indication as to how much cash you are carrying," Overholt said. "And always be vigilant of your surroundings as you shop and go about your daily routine, especially with the upcoming holidays.”
