MARYVILLE (WVLT) -- The last time Maryville lost a region game was back in 2000, and the culprits were the Halls Red Devils.
Kevin Julian's squad almost duplicated its success of seven years ago, falling just short Friday, 38-30, to the Rebels at Shields Stadium.
Maryville scored on its first drive, but Halls evened the score on the ensuing drive. The Rebels tacked on two more scores in the first half to take a 21-10 halftime lead. The second half was a seesaw affair, but Maryville took possession late in the game and held onto the ball to secure the victory.
The win is Maryville's 54th straight and clinches the Region 3-4A title. The Rebels aim for their fourth consecutive undefeated regular season next Friday when they take on Lenoir City.
