CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- School officials said they discovered three separate cases of a serious staph infection reported across the nation and linked to student deaths.
The cases of MRSA were reported yesterday at Cumberland Elementary School, New Providence Middle School and Northeast Middle School.
The school system would not confirm the identity of the children or their status, citing privacy concerns.
Earlier reports indicated that one student had been treated and returned to school, while the other two were still receiving treatment.
School officials urged parents to remain calm and said preventive measures to limit the spread of MRSA have been taken.
