Knoxville (WVLT) - Certainly a busy night for firefighters here in Knoxville.
Volunteer TV's Liz Tedone went to the scene of a fire in west Knoxville.
We had many calls to our newsroom about this one. The flames could be seen from I-40. Around 9 p.m., firefighters got the call to 804 Renford Road in west Knoxville. The home was totally engulfed in flames.
The family that lived there had been next door when the fire started. It's not clear what started the fire, but 5 cats and one dog are not accounted for at this hour.
"En route, firefighters could see flames. They encountered heavy fire conditions, the flames were through the roof. Basically it was a defensive operation," Knoxville Fire Department Captain Brent Seymour said.
The family that lived in the house will be staying with relatives next door. Firefighters are still putting out hot spots.
Investigators are on the scene and will have more information for us at a later time.
