MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A Memphis man has been charged with murder after being accused of setting a fire that killed a 4-year-old boy.
Sherwin Short, age 39, is charged with first-degree murder in the perpetration of an aggravated arson.
His listed address is the home where Jaqueze Johnson was found dead after breathing toxic fumes from the fire Short is accused of setting early Saturday morning.
Police say Short first claimed he was in an argument with his girlfriend and lost track of a large marijuana cigar that he left burning. But authorities say their arson investigation contradicted that claim, leading to charges.
Short is being held on $1 million bond.
