COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a Cookeville man who was lying in the roadway at night, wearing dark clothing has been run over and killed.
The trooper's report says 43-year-old Kenneth Pagano was fatally struck late Monday night in front of his home.
Police say they had previously been called to the same area after reports of someone lying in the roadway.
The car was driven by a 17-year-old Cookeville girl, whose name wasn't released because she's a juvenile.
Sergeant Mark Dial told the Herald-Citizen newspaper Pagano was lying on his back, across a lane of the road.
Dial says there's nothing the driver could have done to avoid the accident and described her as "very distraught."
