East Tennessee Students Win Math Competition

Knoxville (WVLT) - Several East Tennessee high school students have won scholarships after winning a math competition.

They all competed in the U.T.-Pro2Serve Math Contest.

The following students won four-year $4,000 scholarships to the University of Tennessee Knoxville:
Katherine Xue, Stephen Mandry and Yajit Jain of Oak Ridge High School
Dennis Meng of Farragut High School
Zipeng Jiang of The King's Academy, Seymour
Johnathan Luna, a home-schooled student from Maryville High School.
Zhexiang Wu, Chi Zhang and Matthew Ashner of White Station High School, Memphis
Dallas Simmons of Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet School, Nashville

The winners were chosen after their high scores on an essay exam that tested their knowledge on Algebra and Geometry.

The contest also featured a Math Bowl. The overall winner was White Station High School, followed by Oak Ridge High School.
