East Tennessee Man Falls 35 Feet From Tree Stand

Monroe County (WVLT) - A Tellico Plains man is in the hospital after falling from a tree stand while hunting.

Carl Best, Jr., 44, told investigators he was deer hunting on private property off Old Belltown Road Friday morning.

He told them he was not wearing a safety harness on a climbing treestand when he dropped his walkie-talkie and learned forward to pick it up.

He fell 35 feet to the ground.

Investigators say Best had recently undergone back surgery and was complaining of back pain.

The Monroe County Rescue Squad carried him from the woods, and then the Lifestar medial helicopter took him to U.T. Medical Center where he's listed in stable condition.
