Knoxville (WVLT) - A restored home in West Knoxville is now open to restore hope in single mothers.
The Restoration House had its grand opening on Sunday.
It will provide transitional housing and social support networks to single mothers who need help putting their lives back together
Volunteer TV's Kim Bedford was there when the first mother moved in.
There are roughly 12,000 single moms throughout Knox County and half of them live below the poverty line.
Now, it's a new beginning for one mother who made the first step in the Restoration House.
"I need somewhere to go. I need some help getting on my feet," said new mother Rebekkah.
As one door closes, another one opens here at the Restoration House.
"We weren't created to be alone," said Mandy Watson of Restoration House.
Life is about to drastically change for Rebekkah, a single mother to 11 day-old Averie.
"It's very nice of them. It's very generous," said Rebekkah.
Daniel and Mandy Watson lent their hands, hearts, and home to Rebekkah and her newborn.
"She longs for a new beginning and this is a great place for her to begin a journey of hope," said Mandy.
The 19 year-old's venture up to this point hasn't been promising.
"Stressful. I moved around a lot. I don't have the best relationship with my parents," said Rebekkah. "None of my family wants me."
The Watson's hope Rebekkah can put her past behind her with the help of mentors and focus on the new light of her life resting in her arms.
"It's kind of a new frontier, which can always be a little bit scary, but a little bit exciting," said Mandy.
Rebekkah says she knows the walk forward won't be easy.
"I've never been on my own before," said Rebekkah. "I'll have to find daycare for her. I have to find a job. That's going to be difficult."
But she'll have the Watson family living just below her to offer up plenty of support.
"It's nice to know that there's still caring people out there," said Mandy.
The two-year program cost of a single mother's stay is based on her income.
They can also get help with permanent housing and job training.
