BENTON, Tenn. (AP) -- An explosion in Benton blew apart a beauty shop and was heard and felt over a wide area.
Polk County emergency dispatcher Gary Vernor says workers in the dispatch center felt the blast from nearly a mile away shortly before 11 p.m. Vernor says the center was then flooded with calls to 911.
The dispatcher says there were no deaths of injuries in the explosion, which may have been caused by a propane water heater.
Vernor says deputies at the scene described it as looking like a bomb had gone off.
