Knoxville (WVLT) - A man is behind bars after drunkenly trying to break in to a West Knoxville art store with a hatchet.
Michael Dayton, 21, has been charged with burglary and public intoxication.
Police say around 1:30 Thursday morning he used the hatchet to break out a window and steal cigarettes and tobacco from the Weigle's on Northshore near Pellissippi.
Knoxville Police say about ten minutes later, Dayton used the small axe to break the front window of the "Off The Wall" art store on Kingston Pike.
Four men coming out of nearby Rogers Place Bar saw the incident happening and quickly tackled the hatchet wielding burglar.
They held him down until police arrived.
