Sevier County (WVLT) – Snow and ice have closed Newfound Gap Road between Gatlinburg and Cherokee, NC.
It is the first road closure in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park of the winter.
Park officials say snow and ice have already started to accumulate.
In preparation for the weather they began sanding the road early this morning.
Between two and four inches of snow and ice are expected to coat the road overnight.
Clingmans Dome Road has also been closed, and will be re-evaluated on Friday.
