NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Morgan County Executive Becky Ruppe has announced she will run to fill the state Senate seat of fellow Democrat Tommy Kilby, who has said he won't run for re-election next year.
The 44-year-old Ruppe became the first woman to be elected Morgan County executive in 2004. She was re-elected in 2006.
Kilby was elected in a special election in 2003 to replace Democrat Lincoln Davis, who had been elected to the U.S. House.
Senate District 12 includes Campbell, Fentress, Morgan, Rhea, Roane and Scott counties.
