MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Police say a Memphis man hit his girlfriend with a pistol and then committed suicide after an argument during Thanksgiving dinner.
The shooter was pronounced dead at the scene. His girlfriend is in critical condition at the Regional Medical Center. Police have not released the names of the victims until kin is notified.
Six children were at the dinner when the dispute began.
Police say the man and his girlfriend started arguing around 3:15 p.m. Thursday at their home in Memphis. Officials say the couple was in the middle of eating dinner with their children, a few friends and their children when the argument ensued.
As the argument began to escalate, three of their children ran to a neighbor's home, who called police.
Authorities are investigating what caused the dispute.
