Black Friday at the West Town Mall

West Knoxville (WVLT) -- People all across East Tennessee got up early to mark the beginning of the holiday shopping season.

Volunteer TV's Lauren Davis is at the West Town Mall with more details.

The mall has been very busy with shoppers taking advantage of the Black Friday sales.

Some of the shoppers tell us they got there earlier in the morning and still haven't left, hours later.

Sarah Laboranti has her list and she's checking it twice.

"Trying to be real efficient and have a list so we can come here and be prepared for our shopping," said Laboranti.

She started making her list three weeks ago and with Black Friday specials she almost has everything on it.

"I'm looking for everything and hope to be done with shopping after this weekend," she said.

Few may be as ahead of the game as Sarah, but hundreds filled the mall to get an early jump on the shopping and tested out electronics.

Christie Wilson from Huntsville, Alabama continued her family shopping tradition despite the crowds.

"Big crowds haven't seen any craziness like we heard on the radio but it was a big crowd," said Wilson.

A big crowd in Aeropostale Clothing and Apparel and the Apple Electronic Store.

Cashiers were ringing up special deals, like the Body Shop with buy one, get one free doorbusters.

"We don't have sales goals, but market promos so do expect to do lots of business today," said Windy Woodward, The body Shop employee.

Lots of business and profit for stores.

Most aren't discouraged by the crowds, but excited about the season, except Sarah.

"Because i'm ready to be done with this," she said.

After today, she can be done with her shopping and enjoy the Christmas season.

The stores at the West Town Mall are open until 10.

Store officials expect big crowds until closing.
