Fire Officials Say Blaze Claims About 30 Spotted Saddle Horses

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Investigators are trying to discover the cause of a fire that killed nearly 30 spotted saddle horses at a Bedford County stable.

The blaze at Dickie Gardner Stables was discovered around 3 a.m. Gardner said he and his wife tried to get inside the barn area when they reached the scene but firefighters stopped them because it was useless.

Some of the animals were championship horses.

Arson is not suspected but investigators will check it out anyway.
