Blount County (WVLT) - A Blount County middle school custodian has resigned amid an investigation that he made sexual remarks to a young seventh grade girl.
Volunteer TV's Blount County bureau chief stephen McLamb has been following this story since it broke this afternoon and has the latest.
"I understand , you know, that things like this can happen and hopefully the allegations won't be as bad as what I'm thinking right now," grandparent Mary Hicks said.
Mary Hicks says she knows these type allegations are made, but for the first time they're close to home at Eagleton Middle School where her grandson attends.
"It's really hard to believe. You know, I'm still kind of digesting it," Hicks said.
Blount school spokeswoman Alisa Teffeteller says the seventh grade girl claims a custodian made sexual remarks to her one school day. A school investigation was launched, and when complete, the custodian resigned. Mary Hicks says the allegations caught her off guard.
"Even my grandson, he's in the eighth grade here, and he never said a word so I don't know whether the kids even know at this point," Hicks said.
But wishes she had not been.
"I wish the school had sent something home to let us know and warn us that this had happened in the school because this is really close to home," Hicks said.
Blount Sheriff's spokeswoman Marian O'Briant says an investigation is ongoing but no arrests have been made.
School spokeswoman Alisa Teffeteller says the custodian had worked for the system for about ten years, seven at the middle school. She says they are not releasing information on their internal investigation.
