Maryville City Council Considering Property Tax Hike

Maryville, Blount County (WVLT) - The Maryville City Council is considering a property tax increase for residents, following a request for funds from the Maryville School Board.

Right now, city staff is analyzing different scenarios for funding 35 million dollars.

One of those scenarios, property tax increases.

The City's current tax rate is $2.05 per one thousand dollars.

If the plan passes, next year's rate would increase to $2.25, then in 2009, the rate would be $2.50, a 22% increase over three years.

The city council will consider the school board's 35-million dollar request over the next 30 to 60 days.
