Knoxville (WVLT) - The Metropolitan Planning Commission is looking at possible regulations for digital billboards in the city.
As more and more things are going digital these days, some companies want to apply that technology to billboards.
Knoxville currently has a prohibition against any new billboards.
It's a matter of the billboard companies wanting to use the latest technology versus the community's concern for safety along the highway.
"Communities that have opposed this type of technology have done it on the basis of increased distractions along the highway due to the changing images that can result from the digital technology could lead to more safety problems and just more visual blight, " said Mark Donaldson of the Metropolitan Planning Commission.
The planning commission will meet again next month to talk more about the possible regulations.
