Maryville (WVLT) – Investigators want to know what caused the trailer fire that killed a still yet to be identified Maryville man early Saturday morning.
It happened around 2:30 AM at 802 Edna Garland Road.
According to the Blount County Sheriff’s Department, deputies and fire crews arrived on scene to find a trailer fully engulfed in flames.
Mark Anthony Payne, 24 who lived nearby tried to rescue the man inside, but he was unsuccessful and was slightly injured in the process.
Crews transported him to Blount Memorial Hospital where he was treated for minor burns to his face and nose and then released.
When the fire was put out investigators found the victim’s body in the trailer's living room.
It was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center to undergo an autopsy scheduled for Monday.
The cause of the fire has not been determined but investigators do not consider it suspicious.
Their investigation is on going.
