FRANKLIN, Tenn. (AP) -- A former plastic surgeon convicted of criminally negligent homicide in the overdose death of his girlfriend will spend at least seven months in jail.
A judge on Wednesday sentenced Dr. Christ Koulis to two years in prison, the maximum punishment.
The 40-year-old Koulis will have a chance for parole after spending a little more than seven months in prison.
He was also fined $3,000.
A jury in September determined Koulis had injected Lesa Buchanan, a model, with the narcotic painkiller Oxycodone.
Buchanan died on July 4, 2005, after she and Koulis had what he described as a "marathon sex" weekend.
Koulis had testified that Buchanan injected herself.
