KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- A key Senate panel has endorsed new terms for two Tennesseans on the Tennessee Valley Authority board.
The Environment and Public Works Committee also endorsed nomination of the first Georgian to be a board member for the government utility.
Blairsville, Georgia, banker Thomas Gilliland would replace former chairman Bill Baxter of Knoxville, who resigned in January.
The committee also yesterday backed Knoxville public relations executive Susan Williams and Bishop William Graves of Memphis for new terms. They joined the expanded board last year and would now serve until 2012.
The full Senate must approve the nominations for them to take effect.
