FLEMINGSBURG, Ky. (AP) -- A court in Flemingsburg has sentenced a woman to seven years in prison in the death of her toddler, left in a hot car in August 2006.
Toni Barber entered an Alford plea in October, conceding the state had sufficient evidence to convict her.
Six witnesses testified Wednesday, urging the judge to allow probation in the death of 18-month-old Kaleb Davis and Barber made her own plea for leniency.
The court gave her seven years on a manslaughter count and two years for criminal abuse, to be served at the same time.
Another hearing will determine who gets custody of Barber's other child, who survived the incident.
