Difficult Road For E. TN Child

KNOXVILLE (WVLT) - Cancer is a difficult battle for anyone, but fighting it twice in almost two years can be a very hard road to travel.
But not for 11-year-old Hannah Williams.

Volunteer TV's Allison Hunt introduces you to the sweet girl from Dandridge who, despite being diagnosed with cancer again, is stronger than ever.

She's your typical 11 year old girl who loves to shop.

Hannah Williams says, "Everybody tells me you got clothes running out your ears!"

But when you talk to Hannah, you wonder how someone so young, could be so strong, especially a little girl fighting cancer.

"I don't know. I just pray to god every night and he'll give me that strength."

In February 2006, doctors removed a lemon-sized tumor from her brain.

She had 30 rounds of radiation and chemotherapy treatments for almost a year.

Her mother, Kathy Williams says, "She was doing fine, she just started back to school. She was doing really well, she felt good."

But then she started having pains in her back and doctors found a spot on her spine.

Hannah had cancer again.

Kathy says, "When your child hurts of course, you know, and you feel helpless because there's nothing you can do."

After two rounds of chemo, Hannah contracted a fungal sinus infection and had to have surgery.

Hannah says, "They were saying it was life threatening and I said thank you God for giving me that hope and giving me that faith cause I really needed that."

She says she was scared, but usually she isn't.

"I don't really think about it, I just go on with life you know, I like to do stuff and I don't really worry about it."

Instead, Hannah thinks about being a doctor.

"I don't know what kind of doctor yet, but it'll be cool to do something like that."

And the day she beats cancer for good.

"I feel like I'm gonna be ok and it's never gonna come back."

If you would like to help Hannah, there is a chili supper benefit Friday, December 8th.

It starts at 5:30pm and a silent auction starts at 6:00pm.

It's at Maury Middle School in Dandridge.
