Fatal Loudon Shooting Ruled Accidental

LENOIR CITY, Tenn (WVLT) A shooting that killed a Loudon County 12 year old has been ruled accidental.

Loudon County Sheriff's Lieutenant Jeff Vittatoe tells Volunteer TV News that tests on the gun, and the autopsy report prove Stone River Phillips accidentally shot himself on Tuesday inside his home.

Vittatoe says the trajectory of the bullet was not consistant with suicide.

Lt. Vittatoe says the .22 caliber revolver was found underneath the boy when paramedics responded to his Highland Avenue home Tuesday morning.

Vittatoe says the gun was an antique that belonged to Phillips' grandfather and there is evidence that Phillips may have played with it before the incident Tuesday morning.

Vittatoe says the gun had a hair trigger.

Phillips was in 7th grade at Lenoir City Middle School.
