NEW TAZEWELL, Tenn (WVLT) Three Claiborne County residents have been charged with TennCare fraud.
The arrests are part of a massive drug sweep in Claiborne County on Tuesday.
The three arrested, all from New Tazewell, are: Alvin Bolden, 37; Jasper David Hipshire, 31; and, Jerry W. Surber, 51.
The Tennessee Office of Inspector General says all three were arrested on indictments alleging they fraudulently obtained a prescription for the painkiller Hydrocodone, using TennCare to pay for the doctor's visit and then selling a portion of the pills.
"We're saying 'no' to the illegal trafficking of TennCare drugs," Inspector General Deborah Y. Faulkner said. "Enrollees who participate in selling drugs paid for by TennCare - and those who buy them - should understand this is a serious crime we intend to prosecute."
