COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson criticized rival Mike Huckabee today for a lack of knowledge on Iran.
Thompson says it is "surprising" a presidential candidate wouldn't know about a newly released intelligence report that says Iran suspended its nuclear weapons program in 2003.
Huckabee told reporters earlier this week he was not aware of the National Intelligence Estimate report on Iran.
Thompson has had his own moments on the campaign trail being caught unaware on current events. In September, he said he did not know that the U.S. Supreme Court had decided to hear arguments on the constitutionality of the lethal injection method used by most states, including his home state of Tennessee.
Thompson's criticisms come at a time when the latest Associated Press-Ipsos poll shows Huckabee's stock rising while support for the former U.S. senator is falling.
