Knoxville (WVLT) - Police dispatchers say school bus number 62 which serves the Carter and Chilhowee communities has been involved in a fatal crash on John Sevier Highway near French Road.
Investigators say 18 year old Jonathon Manuel was driving South on John Sevier Highway around 6:45 this morning when he crossed the center lane and hit Knox County school bus number 62 head-on.
Manuel was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the bus received minor injuries. There were no students on board at the time of the crash.
Deputies say Manuel, who was a graduate of Gibbs High School, was wearing a seat belt and alcohol and speed did not play a factor in the crash.
Spokesperson for Knox County Schools Russ Oaks tells Volunteer TV News because of the accident, bus number 62 will not be running this morning, also bus number 61 is caught in the traffic back up behind the accident and will not be running this morning.
Parents with students who ride either of those buses will need to take their children to school this morning.
