MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Trial is beginning for one of two men charged in the Jan. 6 killing of Tennessee State Trooper Calvin Jenks.
A jury in Covington will hear the evidence against Orlando Daniel Garcia. He and Alejandro Chevo Gauna are accused in the fatal shooting of Jenks during a routine traffic stop. Both teenagers are also charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute it.
Garcia and Gauna are both from Austin, Texas.
Both are charged with first-degree murder and the state says it will seek life in prison if the jury convicts them.
A section of U.S. 50 has been named in Jenks' honor. He was posthumously named Trooper of the Year for his Highway Patrol district.
