Town Dried by Drought is Finally Wet Again

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Water is flowing again in Orme, where the drought dried up the spring that supplied drinking water to the town of about 150 people.

Mayor Tony Reames says a new connection to the utility in Bridgeport, Ala., was finished early Friday.

Orme residents had depended on emergency water deliveries, which allowed officials to send water through the mains for only a few hours a day.

The plight of the hamlet, 15 miles south of Monteagle, drew national attention when officials had to begin trucking in water to fill the town storage tank.
