Congregation of burned E. Tennessee church plans dinner, service Wednesday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WVLT) The congregation of an East Tennessee church that was gutted by flames Monday will gather Wednesday to look back, and look ahead.

Pastor Braxton Cotton tells Volunteer TV News, members of the First United Methodist Church on College Street in Madisonville will gather tomorrow in the cafeteria of Hiwassee College for a dinner at 6 p.m.

A service will follow at the Buckner Memorial United Methodist Church on the Hiwassee College campus, after dinner, at 7 p.m., Wednesday.

Pastor Cotton says the church is still finalizing plans for Sunday services this week and for weeks in the future.

They hope to have those details by Tuesday night.

The First United Methodist sanctuary was gutted by a fast moving fire early Monday morning.

The church had stood on College Street in Madisonville since 1917.

The fire has been ruled accidental.
