Knoxville (WVLT) - Some big improvements are in the works for Knoxville.
The city and Southshore Properties LLC announced plans today for a major project located in Knoxville's 20 year south waterfront redevelopment plan area.
The cooperative efforts include construction of 137 new residential units valued at more than 58 million dollars.
Knoxville will also get a new five acre riverfront park and an 1,800 feet long section of the eventual three mile long riverwalk.
City Councilman Joe Hultquist says, "This is the most beautiful thing that's been proposed yet for the waterfront and I think it pertains well for everything else to come08 I think they've set the bar higher than a lot of us even hoped it could be set in terms of design and aesthetics."
Construction of the new housing and city improvements could begin by this summer.
