KNOXVILLE (WVLT) - The program providing healthcare services for children on TennCare got a check up in Knox County today.
Tenndercare providers learned the latest screening rates for the year, and how Knox County reached its goal.
Tenndercare is a state-funded program of check-ups and other healthcare services.
It emphasizes the importance of proper medical care to child development.
Since the program began in 2003, medical screening rates have improved by nearly 22 percent.
State Tenndercare Director Vicki Peterson says, "In fact, this past year is the highest screening ratio that TennCare has reported. Statewide, that screening ratio is 77 percent."
The goal of Tenndercare is to achieve and maintain a medical screening rate of 80 percent or more.
The program is a collaboration between county health departments, physicians, schools and community groups.
