Knoxville (WVLT) -- The Knox County Sheriff's Department is investigating what it believes is a home invasion turned shooting in Powell.
It happened Saturday, just after noon on East Copeland Drive.
According to investigators, a teenager was home alone when he says he heard someone kick in the back door of his house.
He quickly grabbed a phone and hid in a bathroom closet.
From the closet he called his grandfather and told him someone had broken into the house and that he was now hiding.
Minutes later, the teen's grandparents arrived at the home, where according to Chief Deputy Tom Spangler, the grandfather confronted the burglar.
"The burglar ran out of the house and the grandfather gave warning to stop," Spangler said. "Next thing we know, the suspect had been shot."
The sheriff's department, says the suspect was taken to the hospital, but his condition is unknown and the investigation is on-going.
