UPDATE: Claiborne Co. Teacher's Aide Charged With Statutory Rape

CLAIBORNE COUNTY (WVLT) - A former Claiborne County teacher's aide faces criminal charges after police say she took two teenage boys out of school and had sex with them.

25 year old Christy Michelle McCartt worked at the alternative school where the 16 and 17 year old boys were her students.

Among the charges include two counts each of statutory rape,

Volunteer TV's Rob Pratt has more.

McCartt already faces two felony charges, but the detective handling the case says that may be just the beginning.

Investigators are also looking into additional allegations involving McCartt and at least one other employee of the school.

Students are sent to the alternative school because they are in trouble.

But now a teacher's aide who worked there, is the one with real problems.

It began as an investigation into allegations that Christy McCartt took two teenage boys out of school and drove them to Kentucky.

That led to allegations she had sex with the boys in Tennessee.

Detective David Daniels say the Sheriff's Department is looking hard at several allegations.

"We are going to really start cracking down on them. The more we find. We have found a few extra ones that have come up and we're in the process of charging them also. It's possible to this one, and we might have one other one."

McCartt lives on Elk Street, not far from the school.

We went to her house for a reactions but only got to talk to a man who was waiting outside.

The director of schools, Eddie Shoffner, would not talk on camera.

He did tell me that McCartt resigned her position the day before the incident.

He says the schools investigate all claims of improper behavior, and he quickly involved the Sheriff's Department in this case.

"If anybody has any inkling of anything else going on in schools, with minor juveniles. We definitely want to know about it."

McCartt is free on $25,000 dollars bond.

She's due in court on December 27.

You individuals act like no one male or female had sex before you turned 18 these boys are 17 nearly 18. I dont agree with what she has done by any means. But makes you better than her passing judgment? We dont have all the evidence, therefore she is innocent until proven guilty. There have been male teachers that were proven that they had committed these acts what happened to them??? Claiborne County is on of the worst areas for gossip, politics, Quick to judge, and if an indiviual in the area does nothing their name will still possibally slandered in some way. Whether she did it or not she is ruined for life, along with her child. That's what is sad. If it is true she should be punished and if not then individuals should learn to withold judgments until all evidence is presented along with the T.V. Stations

What is the difference with this girl and Ms. Booth at the High School two year ago? My 16 year old son had nude photos of her science teacher on his computer. Nothing was said about that. I have a friend whose 15 year old daughter was caught with a 30some year old man, when it went to court nothing was done about it. The 30 year old man was laughing about it after court and the girl's father hit him and he went to jail, not the 30 year old man. I guess men in Claiborne County can get away with this stuff. But wht about Ms. Booth? She teaches in another county.

in response to tn girl, how can you hide behind your screen name and not say who you are....what a sad way to persecute someone for something not proven just because you have personal issues

She quit her job AFTER she was caught with the boys. Mr Shoffner did not report this incident, it was looked into by the SRO, and he reorted it to he sheriffs office

Please don't judge the majority because of the minority's actions. Most teachers become teachers because they truly want to make a difference in students' lives. The majority of teachers would never take advantage of a student.

This has been going on for a long time. When I was in school I know of 3 teachers who had inappropriate relations with students.2 were men and 1 woman teacher. No one took kids seriously then. That has always been a problem in my opinion. In response to bboop89 one major problem with our school is that God has been kicked out.

There is something seriously wrong. These young women seem to have a case of arrested developement and think they are in their teen years again. That way they can prey on those younger than themselves. This should not be tolerated any more than a male teacher raping a female student. Same crime- same punishment.
