NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- An illegal immigrant who killed a man and his 2-year-old son in a drunken driving crash in Nashville has pleaded guilty to two counts of vehicular homicide.
Jonathan Narvaez-Pena apologized to the family of his victims in Spanish during Tuesday's hearing in Nashville. Prosecutors recommended an 8-year prison sentence on each count for a total of 16 years.
Narvaez-Pena was 22 at the time of the crash in October that killed 43-year-old Antoine Bumvu and his young son.
A Metro Police officer testified at a preliminary hearing that Narvaez-Pena admitted he had 10 to 15 drinks before he ran a red light at an intersection.
He has been flagged for deportation proceedings after serving his prison time.
